I should probably post this under "What did you do today" but wanted to get some feedback on a question. Got the intake bolted in today, and this weekend will get the fuel pump, thermostat, and other miscellaneous stuff installed. Still cleaning things like wiring, brackets, fuel vapor canister, and all those tedious parts. Next week: dizzy, carburetor, spark plugs, and such. Fire up goal: mid-February. Can't wait!

Question: best way to remove the orange-colored high temp RTV from around the front of the intake? Stands out like a sore thumb. :)

I used a hobby knife and cut my black stuff off. Then I used a plastic scraper to make sure not to leave marks. Do not ask me about the paint job though. It looked great until I used carb cleaner to look for vacuum leaks. I will be redoing that too. Damn

Thanks for the tip, Ford . And I'll keep the use of carb cleaner to a minimum since I used rattle can rubberized paint for the engine bay.

Good luck with your project! :)

Can I call you anything besides Fordication?

Use Ultra Black next time. It has better oil resistance than the orange, and doesn't stick out like a neon sign.

Trim it back, maybe mask the intake and hit it with a little of the engine paint.

Looks really good so far, you can also get one of those cheap jewelers screwdriver sets at the dollar store to scrape with

Go DOC. Gald to see your project progressing. Our engines are very closely built. Mine has the same rear so most power comes in in 2nd gear pulling 35mph and up. Still haven't pushed mine hard yet after 900miles. Will this year once suspension tightened up.

Doc, be sure you cut all the way through the sealant so as not to accidently pull it out from underneath and create a leak. Project looks great. Good luck!

Trim back the orange and apply a thin layer of blue silicone. I touch mine up with some ford blue paint. Not sure if that will last. Your engine is looking good. I'm sure your getting excited:).

Hmmm. I thought my real name came up in the signature. I may need to change that. Its Ed

Thanks, Ed. And thanks again to everyone for your tips and encouragement. Now, I'm headin' out to the garage and gettin' dirty. :)
