Rear spring rear shackle support

When we were driving back from Oxford with the car we passed a 70 Cougar that the back bumper was darn near on the road. Told my buddy Tony that wasn't the first uni-body I saw that the springs went through the trunk. WELL! looking at mine it is the worst spot on the car. I'd like to repair it with new metal if possible. Any body tried it? The frame rails are in good shape except for right at the perch.
