I replaced the turn signal canceling cam on my 1971 mustang. After I got everything re-wired and back in place, I noticed a small, thin metal bar about an inch long laying on my workbench. It's at the bottom of the picture and is circled in red. Can anyone tell me if this may be part of the steering column and if so, where it would go? I took a before and after pic of this area and didn't see any differences beside the part I replaced. Thanks.

Thanks Dave. I will take my cancelling cam off and put it back where it belongs. Can you tell me what type of lube you used on your steering column? Mine in bone dry.

Also, is there some type of lube that needs to be applied to the back of the steering wheel where it mounts with the steering column?
