As I went to install my new shifter lever, pointer indicator, and all the pieces, including a brand new Repro bezel from NPD, I find the pointer doesn't line up at all with the PRND21.

Not even close.  With each gear selection, the pointer is between the PRND21.

I don't see any adjustment for this.  The spring loaded tab on the shifter snaps into each gear on the steel piece.

The pointer is fixed in the middle of the selector lever.

The bezel mounts to fixed posts on the tranny tunnel.?

Why is my alignment so off? AAARGH!

Can someone please measure their bezel for me as you can see I did in the picture?

As you can see, my new bezel has 1" from the silver accent to the P.

I don't have my old one.

I need to know if this Repro piece from NPD is an accurate reproduction.

Thanks

How is the alignment in R N D 2 1? Are you sure that it is not the shift linkage out of adjustment? The transmission has its own detents that should line up with the shift lever detents. D detent position on the shift lever (not the cover) should line up with the trans detent when in drive. According to Ford, to adjust the linkage you would start by putting the car in Drive (engine off and parking brake on) and adjust the linkage so that the trans is in the second detent position from the back. If adjusted correctly the shift cover should then line up with all positions,

Here is the link to the Ford Manual for adjusting the linkage... https://www.7173mustangs.com/attachment.php?aid=45888

Also, post a picture of the underside of the shift cover. I looked at my shift lever cover and the P R N D 1 2 indicators are in the same positions as yours. So the plastic lens appears to be mounted correctly in the cover.

Thanks for some thoughts.  Was waiting for someone to confirm my new bezel looks "normal"

As I said in my orig post, yes, the indicator is off through all the gears.

In one of the pics, you can see the transmission is in Park and the indicator is way above the P.

The linkage is adjusted correctly (each detent on the shifter, tranny is in the correct gear)

I will check it today to see exactly where the shifter lever is when in Drive as you mentioned.

I started to think that maybe Ford did this on purpose based on line of sight from the drivers eye.

Here are pics looking at the shift indicator from the driver's seat viewpoint in each of my 73 verts. The first pic with a C6 and the second a C4. The shift lever in the second pic has some play in it. I can move the lever from the top of the "P" forward past the "P". This is for two reasons the plastic bushing where the shift lever shaft passes thru the casing is worn and needs replacing and the neutral safety switch and linkage is out of adjustment. Replacing the bushing is on my to-do list. The C6 shifter has new bushings and has been recently adjusted and the shift needle sits firmly with no play at the top of the "P". If you haven't already, I would check those plastic bushings for wear and maybe a minor linkage adjustment might bring the needle closer to the top of the "P".
