Hello,

My speedometer on 73 Mustang is app. 5 miles an hour off. More concerning is that the needle wavers until the car gets up to app. 30 mph. Any suggestions ? Is this a matter of lubrication of the cable or replacement ? Any advice on how to correct would be appreciated.

There's been a couple of other discussions in the last 3 or 4 months about both bouncing speedometer needles and correct speedometer gears, just search for them in the "Google Custom Search" box.

Thanks

Just for throwing my own 2 cents in based on my own experience:

Waving needle: worn out speedometer cable from gauge to the transmission

Off-speed: wrong speedometer gear in the transmission, depending on your wheels

Look on my restoration thread, first site, at the bottom - I solved the same problem:

There are some helpful links for calculating dimensions, too...

Hope, that helps!

Tim
