The mirror looks like the correct one from the pictures. 71-73 models used the same mirror. You should check the part number in the base. There is also a part number on the housing behind the mirror.

You can buy a replacement mirror that fits over the top of the original glass, or find a good original donor mirror.

Enlarging the picture shows a D1Z part number, the mirror base is correct. The heads were the same throughout. IIRC, the Mustang vendors sell a replacement knob. Can't help you on the installation, as I've never had to do one. Hopefully you have the bezel nut and the stamped retainer plate as well.

Yes, your base and body correct. The knob is a bit of a bear to do. It requires carefully drilling out the broken stub. The replacement are also quite delicate, so be very careful. Take your time!!

As for the glass what I did was to cut an aluminum plate from .040" thick sheet about a half inch bigger and had a flat replacement mirror cut to that shape, Bigger is better, believe me! In your case, carefully break out the old glass. You can glue the mirror to the plate and then glue the plate to the base. I use my fav product for this Automotive GOOP, which is black. Do NOT even try using RTV, it won't hold for long. Also if you want to go that far, I made a convex mirror for the passenger side and that REALLY makes a HUGE difference. I have posted on my mirror mods and I'll try to find the link and post it, well maybe if I can figure it out!!

Here are some of pics of what I did. and a download of the plates I cut. The green tape was from me figuring out differences in the castings.

PM me if you need to.

Geoff.
