Steering shaft question

Hello!

My 73 had a c4 auto trans in it. There is a bracket on the steering shaft that had a linkage going to the transmission just before the rag joint. Is this removable?

That bracket is for the lock-out rod, which prevents the transmission from being shifted out of Park unless the key is in the run position. It also prevents the key from being turned to the off position and removed unless the transmission is in Park.

It is welded to the steering shaft, would require removing it from the column to cut it off.

When I converted from an FMX to manual I was able to cut the tab off with the column in the car.  Just used a hack saw.
