What is the appearance of the 1972 stock wheel under the hub cap? I don't think we have the stock wheels on ours. If someone could post a reference that would be great. Wheels.jpg

Here's what I found from searching the web:

Not sure if it's the right color, but I'm pretty sure that's the right type of steel rim

The wheels shown on the red car are a popular aftermarket wheel from the '70's to roughly mid '80's. They were sold by several different manufacturers in several different sizes, and generically known as a "turbine" style wheel.

Ford even had similar wheels that came stock on '77-ish Thunderbirds and a variation on Lincolns.

Thanks Moto,

I have always been a bit iffy on those wheels.

Yours appear to be as Pete mentioned - here is a pic of a 1989 Gran Marquis with very similar wheels:

Thanks Ray,

I am thinking that its time to look for some stock wheels somewhere.

Thanks, I believe I ran across that same pic, definitely not what we are rocking!

Oddly enough, any wheel with the right lip design will support wheel covers. The rears on mine were from a '63.5 Galaxie 500, and the fronts were the custom wheels that came with the car. I had to do that because the Galaxie wheels wouldn't fit around the front disc brakes.

I would call Don at OMS (Ohio Mustang Supply). He is a member here and is very knowledgeable about what wheels you need for your car.

He also has quite a few salvage Mustangs he can get wheels from...

(440) 949-2556

Many of us have dealt with him and I will definitely use him again.

Another good source might be MotorcityMustang.

Good luck.

Thank you, I will have to save up!

Thank you! The pics with the sport covers were mostly for posterity purposes - so I could have an idea of what my car looked like with those wheels (kind of a 'from the factory' look). Not wanting to deal with or risk losing hard to find wheel covers for normal use (and being more of a restomod kind of a guy), I went with Cragar S/Ss for a more old-school muscle car look.

I mentioned that because finding and/or restoring a nice set of stock wheel covers is getting harder to do and more expensive... especially for the more desirable covers, and even more so in the 15" size (Corporate "dog dishes" & trim rings, sport covers, etc.). If you plan on restoring to 'stock' appearance and actually use your car, you might want to start collecting some spares to have on-hand in the event you lose one (or more), they get damaged, etc.

Just thinkin' ahead.
