T5 conversion

So just finished up my T5 conversion. One issue is the lock on the steering shaft just below the master cylinder. What has anyone done to hold this up. I took it out for a test drive and the keys would not turn back to lock to be removed until I reached in the pulled it back up. I zip tied it up so it is good for now but there has to be a better way. Anyone have any suggestions.

With the linkage rod disconnected it may stay in place mine does.
