1973 Convertable ,351 cobrajet,Q code,4 speed Hurst..I've owned her since 1984
how important is correct radio. and where does a body find what was original . Not listed on Elite Report. 6 inch center to center on Bezel. OK Now on with Restoration pics that I have found to date. The 1973 have been off the road since early1987. some injustics may have occured the the next 20 years.. she was on a slow recovery with a good body man who built a rotisserie for her.
the Q code went to a very good engine Builder named Jim Richmond. These past three years have resulted in the nearly completed job. June 20 was the FIRST time I have driven the car on a highway since 1987. All went really well til I let the mechanic behind the wheel. He wanted to stress test....funny terms gentle men have for going 55 MPH, dropping the 4 speed to third and punching it. Of course the only 51 year old part left was the universal at the spline/Driveshaft.ByeBYe. waited for tow. Cant wait for my next test drive.Love all the information here. Seems I knew more about cars when I was younger.

Radios were not standard on any '71-73 Mustang. Three radios were available: An AM with a single dashboard-mounted speaker, an AM/FM with left and right door-mounted speakers, and an AM 8-Track tape player with door-mounted speakers. The speakers were mounted in the lower/front section of the doors. The odd setup on the '71-73s to get the unit with the 8-track is you had to order the AM radio option and then order what Ford called Stereosonic Tape System. The AM 8-Track radio system you received was a one-piece unit, so everyone wondered, "What were they thinking?"

If any of the three radios listed above are not on your Marti report under "Your Vehicle Was Equipped With The Following Features," it did not leave the assembly plant with a radio kit.
The radio kit included the radio, antenna, and all necessary hardware and templates for the dealer to install the radio during the PDI process (Pre-delivery and inspection). It wasn't uncommon for retail and stock-ordered cars to be ordered that way so the dealer could install customer-special-request radios.

Thank-you secluff. based on this ,I will move ahead on getting just the am old sckool. just need radio in picuture for collect plates.
Spoke with the Collector Car Guy at ICBC today . so interestingly enough he says get an AM , or the plate that would have covered the hole from factory, OR and here's the biggy....an Am/FM/with Cassette radio. In BC , we do things a little different.
