I'm just glad it was an easy fix and all turned out well. I had a brother-in-law who borrowed my car and wiped the transmission because he did'n't notice the temp idiot light. Cost $200 in fuel and a case of Budwieser and 2 days lodging to get it + $1800 to fix it. Know what it's like when yours is so far away. That's why I like this forum!

Still scratching my head on this one, so the electric fault for the break lights prevented the mechanical shift? I guess with electronic transmissions, anything is possible? Another strike against modern vehicles in my book :)
The brake switch, in this case, actually goes to the PCM which then controls the brake lights and shifter lock amongst other things.

Just an update...Last weekend while at home I took the time to reroute the wires and solder the connections. She shouldn't have any more issues with this!

Good to hear, hopefully this gives you some piece of mind.
It does! Being three hours away kinda sux but it is nice to know this community of people were working to try and get her some help before I got there! 'Tis a rare thing, indeed!

That's what great about this forum over others is sincere commoradary. Love these 71-73's because as referenced from Blazing Saddles "We don't need no stinking computers". :p

Hopefully your wife is still happy with the car. We have 3 of the SN95 (1994-2004) Mustangs and they have been very reliable (knock on wood)!

She is, Mike, however...my 16 year old daughter wants the car since my wife heard one of the newer ones yesterday and is now looking to maybe pop for a new V6 car (305 hp/280 lb.-ft. of torque)!
