What did you do to your car today?

Funny you say dish soap. I was thinking just before I logged in today, that Dawn Power Spray (or whatever it's called) would be the best choice. I don't want anything too strong. At least as I was not moving fast, the oil is not all along the underside.......... I hope.

No comment at the moment. I removed my ac unit and will save it for next summer. I just don't have the extra 400 to spend on a new condenser and etc. There's all kinds of crap exposed in all the lil crevices. All of those products work with warm water. I also found lil spots under my hood. I think the fan kicked it up. I bought a new pressure line. Don't really like the fit. It's a bit longer leaving a big loop. I had to use wire loom to keep it from rubbing the support.

Nice job Paul, you're making great progress. I've really enjoyed going thru your exploded view and detailed pictures posted in the media section. That's an incredible amount of documentation.

Last night first unofficial Cruise Night was a huge success. Over 40 cars and trucks showed up. I guess the 'hot' weather got everybody fired up. Here's a couple of pic I took early on. Many showed up after.

I can’t do my own work because of back problems so I have a trusted garage do it for me. This week I got my freeze plugs replaced along with new motor mounts and transmission mount. My oil gauge stopped working so that was fixed while in shop for the freeze plugs. I would like to have my car undercoated and I’m thinking about using zebart. They want the car for 3 days they power wash the surface rust from the bottom and then coat it. Has anyone else used them and if so how did it turn out?

Personally, I'd have it repainted. I'd go with low gloss black. Dearborn car were I believe, all slop grey underneath. Mine was almost a blue-grey color.

Thanks. I started the documentation compulsion a lil over a decade ago. I had a complete how to book stored on Multiply. It was based on fabricating & building hot rods. I covered 2 builds, a 50 Convertible and a 36 coupe. I spent hrs writing down every detail, then all of a sudden Multiply was gone and everything disappeared. Anyway, since then I just hand out the info. I've been on the early Hemi sites, A bodies, GTO sites, Hamb for old 50's, other rod and custom sites. I've been known to peddle my share of parts, Having 6-10 early Hemis at a time. Evan had a stint w/ Max Wedges. This is more than a hobby, it's like an addiction.

Went to the Pomona Swap Meet and picked up a couple of shorty window cranks and a brand new Harada power antenna for the ‘vert. I had not seen one of those for over 40 years!! I was surprised that 90% of the vendors had stuff for GM cars. Has a great time with the wife who is really into the ‘vert more than any of the other toys.

I'm not really the guy to ask. However, my thought on it would be "what is this guy trying to hide under there?". Also I would think that if ANY water is remaining in the frame parts, then rust could start up under the coating.
But your car, your way.
Actually I purposely did nothing under my car from the engine bay back. I left it totally as it is, dirty, but no rust or other nasties under there.

EDIT: I remember now that there is a product call Lizard Skin that is supposed to be really good , but again prep is king.

That's good to hear. Not the surface rust, but that you want to be a good caretaker of the car.
A thought might be to take lots of pictures, before, during and after the clean up. That way you have proof that you're not just trying to hide a rotten floor and any future buyer would be most happy with your honest approach. I would be for sure.

I lived in New England for over a decade & was an aircraft and auto mechanic. Needless to say, I hated working under the lifts in the winter, as that crap dripped on you all day. I also did a lot of people's rust repairs. Mostly side jobs. I personally hate that undercoating garbage. I've never removed it to find a nice clean surface, it either traps moisture, or creates moisture from application. The best undercoating is a nice clean primed and painted surface. When you get down to bare metal underneath use etching primer, then paint it. When the winter comes, and they salt the roads avoid the 1st rain as it will bring some of that salt back to the surface. Normal rains shouldn't deter you from driving though. p.s. I think Chesapeake was the bay with w/ the ferry. I've rode that thing @ 6 x's and loved it when the sea was rough, it was fun.

I made my ps hoses. I made the hard lines from the steering box and flared the hose ends for AN fittings. I used a teflon lined braided hose for the pressure line.

I had some issues with the tilt steering column. The shaft had play due to bad bearings. Also, slight amount of play in the tilt mechanism. I replaced the bearings but couldn’t find a reason for play in tilt mechanism. The u-joint was a little loose, I cleaned it, greased it, tightened it. Everything is back together now with a new nos t-sig switch. Tilt mechanism is still the same, bearing play is gone now but now I have a short in the horn circuit. Sometimes I feel like I can’t win.

Put black electrical tape over the rivet heads on the back side of the turn signal switch; if you tighten the steering wheel too much, the rivets will contact the column (ground).
