Came across this part in the engine compartment and was trying to figure out what it was. Circled in red, next to the regulator / starter solenoid area. From what I can tell from wiring drawings is that its some kind of circuit breaker ( for seats maybe ?). It looked kind of aged and I wanted to replace it with new and clean the area a little.

Thanks!

Considering that SteveO_71 has a Mach, it may be for a rear window defroster. Yes, also used for convertible top motors. Typical factory mounting location is on battery post side of the solenoid.

+1 circuit breaker

- the convertible top

- rear window defrost

*maybe electric windows or seat back release*

Correct place... see pictures
Yes, the wiring appears the same as in this picture. Thing is, I dont have any of those electrical options... top, windows or electric seats. Can the circuit breaker and associated wiring be all removed if those options dont exist any more? Maybe I'll just replace it to clean things up a bit.

Thanks!

The circuit breaker is for the auxiliary power feed, a three position yellow plug hanging under the dash by the steering column. It provides power for power windows, electric seatback releases and the engine compartment lamp. It may power other things, depending upon the year. I believe it also served the convenience groups as well (interior footwell lamps, map light, e-brake warning lamp).

No sense in removing it, especially since doing so would leave a huge hole in your firewall where the wire grommet passes through.
