Which direction? Trunk seal install

So does the seal install curved in towards the trunk opening or away from the trunk opening?  Thanks!

Do the new trunk seals need to glued in place or will the gutter hold them in place? The original one seems to have been glued in.

I think the Daniel Carpenter seals have the holes. He does not sell direct but most suppliers list who they carry. NPD has a lot of his products. They bought the original extruding machines that made it originally and them produce in Concord, N.C..

What does the "4" and "5" refer to in the above diagram. Is it some sort of sealant?

Where is the diagram from? Can you show us the full picture?

The picture is from a jim osborn reproductions body assembly manual.  Jim Osborn has licensed copies of the Ford assembly drawings.  You can buy a copy from NPD, CJ pony and other shops.  Buying a copy of all is worth the cost.

Thanks for the update. I cleaned out the gutter as much as I could and just installed the new seal with out any sealant to see if the gutter would hold the rubber seal with out sealant.

it seems to hold, but I'm sure if it is bumped it will probably pop out.

The trunk lid was hard to close with the new seal installed (as expected).

Will see how it goes.
