I've been thinking and I've decided I'm gonna do it. Since the standard interior door panels are just flat cardboard anyways, I figure I could cut out a door panel with carbon fiber. I think It would be a pretty cool custom/racecar look. Just gotta buy a sheet of carbon fiber like this.

It would be similar to this car.

THAT is what "rodding" has always been about - - making your car suit YOUR desires and making it BETTER in your mind.

Sounds like a GREAT approach to me.

Wow - at $425-ish per door, I think I'll stick with repro door panels.

But good luck nonetheless. I think it'll be cool regardless. I'm planning on replacing the fake woodgrain with carbon fiber skin - probably just get a nice sheet of vinyl though.

Check out the pics in my garage of the carbon fiber and the brushed aluminum door panel inserts

So, you had the center console hydro-imaged? Sweet!! I like the look of the camera case finish on the other pieces though - it's just the fake wood grain that bugs me.

Here's what I'm thinking about: http://www.carbonfiberfilm.com/ I'd thought about having the hockey stripes and 'Mach 1' decals cut out of this stuff, then applying to the hood as well - but it doesn't last so long out in the elements (I'd be reapplying the stuff every couple years or so). But should be fine for many years on internal pieces. I've got a buddy in San Antonio doing this to the roof of his 350Z, so I guess I'll keep tabs on that for awhile.

Watch the videos and you'll see just how easy to apply and durable this stuff is. I just wish sun-fade wouldn't be such a problem.

Cool pretty neat stuff yeah I did not like the wood grain either, but thats what makes them our cars is you make it your own.

I hydro dipped on graphics on my door insert. Got a kit with 5 or 6 different rolls for around $100.00. I used to dip gun parts and transferred that over to car parts. Waiting on new door panels to put on these scales on my cobra LOL.

Sweet!

We have a place that does hydro-imaging here in San Angelo, but they want A LOT of money for it (I'm not saying it's not worth it... just not to me).

I got the 3M Di-Noc and covered my pieces shortly before the car show last October... it seemed to be a big hit. I'll be sure to get some better pics soon.

We ordered the Carbon Fiber headliner, sail panels and visors from TMI. The interior guy picked up the same vinyl locally and did the package tray and door inserts and I used leftover to cover the package tray trim panels

Very NICE, indeed:)!

Don't get me wrong, I like the carbon fiber look to a degree but to me it seems like it's the next "billet" thing. Remember when everthing was billet this and that. Nice for accent pieces and such. Just sayin.

Hello 71mach1lady,

Can you tell any differences in the weight of the material with the original vs. the Carbon fiber material? Can you also provide another picture with the Headliner? I am trying to determine if the Carbon Fiber look s worth the extra $$.

thanks
