A good friend just got the call that his 71 Challenger is painted and ready to be picked up. We delivered the car in early Feb 2023, the painter just finished it this week. This was a complete color change from Gold to Plum Crazy, the timeframe is appropriate for a non-restoration shop. It still needs the interior and powertrain reinstalled, but he has all winter for that.

Wife's '71 Mach1 "M code" went to the paint shop in May 2023. Went by there Friday, and yes its unbelievable but the car has been jacked up and put on jack stands! So much progress I was absolutely impressed.View attachment 94004
A year and a half to jack it up, sounds like a 30 year prison sentence!

Ribs has me inspired. Never done it, but hell, it's worth saving the money and the time.
I built a paint booth out of 2x4, and old wedding tent and a big roll of plastic, got 16 $12 LED lights, bought a compressor for $1600, paint guns, primer and paint, assorted sandpapers, 3m finishing products, a buffer tool sanding blocks, fillers, explosion proof exhaust fan, air filters, etc, painted the car, sold the compressor for $1200…..total cost for 2 tone custom job, about $4500.

Way to go guys. And rvanamg; that looks like a metalic finish?
Thats the hardest to get right. 🫨
Actually, the car was painted with a gloss black single coat over epoxy primer. Then vinyl wrapped the color flips from dark metallic green to black. The wrap should be good for 5-10 years on a garage queen such as mine so it is a good choice. While I am confident in my ability to paint, I know my limitations and this color flip is beyond my ability in paint, but not in vinyl wrap. I also installed that myself.

The paint jobs shown in this thread look great. I would like to try my hand at painting, but maybe some of you could provide some tips.
What I don’t know is when to use primer surfacer and when to use primer sealer.

Home made plastic paint booth. Turned out pretty nice! New garage is going to have a dedicated room for painting.
It does take a lot of time and patience to do it right. Can’t wait to do my car next.
Awesome Job on the body work and paint work, such an Awesome Job, Very Sharp Ride, How about some interior & trunk pictures?

Such a Beautiful Car RIBS, I hope to see it soon!

Wrapping your car rvanamb is just as awsome as painting it.
And for cj....use someone elses car first. The real trick is getting the paint glossy without it running.
(and in that case I'm talking about the paint....not the car)

Didn’t have many interior pics or trunk. The interior is all original other than radio. Car only had 40,000 mikes on it. We did swap out the after market steering wheel in pic with a very nice original. I didn’t have to touch the interior thankfully!
