Hi-
I was wondering if anyone had used the Wheel Vintique Ford Style 15" X 10" Magnum 500 wheel on the factory Stock '71 Mach 1 car without any other modifications. In other words, will these fit the stock Competition Suspension ? I know th 15 X 8" ones are not an issue .
thanks!
Dave Christo

I put some repro 15 x 10 Magnums on my 72 Mach1 4 years ago with Hoosier Quick Times on for racing. I believe they were WVs but I'm not sure. They have a 5" backspace (just checked) which was not enough as the outside of the tire was close enough to the wheel well just inside the arch that I felt it necessary to use long shackles. I bought some s/h 15 x 8 Welds (MUCH lighter!) & got the Hoosiers on them. The night before the next track day found that they did not have enough backspace & fouled the stabiliser bar! As I had no option I removed the bar. The Welds have 6" backspace. So either you need 5 1/2" backspace or 6" & add a spacer.

You might look around for Austin Vert's '73 convertible - he went with a set of those out back with some 295/50R15 Mastercraft Avengers. Looks pretty sweet, to be sure.

I have a set of Cragar S/Ss on mine with 15x10s (5.25" backspacing) with 295/50R15 Cooper Cobras. They fit perfect and look cool as well.

If you want to spend a little time measuring you can use the spreadsheet in this thread to do the math for you to determine the clearances you will have with various tire and wheel combinations. The critical measurements are inside of fender lip to inside of fender lip, outside of springs to outside of springs, inside of wheel house to inside of wheel house, and if the axle housing is centered between the fenders/wheel houses.

Here's Austin Vert's thread that Eric mentioned, and they do look good.
