Also tried a few minutes ago I noticed that the starter solenoid started sparking n smokin when we tried stepping on the gas to keep it on

So for sure, you’ve got to check all of the battery connections, and the positive side from the battery to the solenoid. Those sparks and such are sign of bad/corroded connections. What did you do to the fuel system after receiving the vehicle? Unless you know for a fact it’s good, I would remove the fuel line from both ends, blow it out, change the fuel filter, and pull the carb and check to make sure it isn’t full of old gas tank junk.

Where are you in Ca?

As Steve said, but also check the GROUND cables to the block as well as to the body. I'm not familiar with 73's, but on the 71-72's their will be a ground cable attachment at the voltage regulator. That MUST be a good connection. I assume the 73 is the same.
