Can you take a picture or two where your Mach1 grill connects to your center support?(near the hood latch assembly). I am converting my convertible pony grill to Mach1 style. I think there might be an intermediate bracket I need….
Thanks!

Here’s some from my 72 Mach. The 71`s had a double vertical support and the 72-73s have a single.

Thanks to both of you! I need that extension part!

The 71 and 72 are different extension pieces. It's one or the other, no mixing.
Did you check NPD website? They list latch support kits in an older catalog I have, but no pics.

I will have to take a close look I guess…I have an early 71 car with a 2 post, and a matching 71 valance Without a center support mount hole. I also have a 72 or 73 valance with a center mount hole, and I bought a single post latch support, but I don’t know what year it is, I assume it’s a 71 or 72, didn’t know the single post was different between 71/72 because I thought the cars were identical….all the parts are in my basement, I guess it’s time to dry fit….

So here’s my parts, a single center support, mounted to my latch…no part numbers, original 71 dual support. Then primer valance is 71, no center mount hole, bare metal valance is 72/73 with center hole….have an aftermarket NPD Mach1 grill to attach.

Yeah, I have no idea when exactly Ford made the change from the earlier 71 style to the later 72/3 style. I do know there were big changes about April or May of 72, so perhaps it was in that time period. The pop open gas cap is a prime example. I had 2 April 72 Mach 1's (at the same time) and both had pop open gas caps.
I guess at the end of the day, it will be whatever works for you and what you want to do on your car. Bottom line is it holds the grill and the hood shut.
All the best,

Hello, I could be mistaken however the early1971 2-bracket setup is nearly impossible to find. I have an early 71 and the bracketry is from a 72. I couldn't find the mid-bracket so I made my own (not cool? maybe).

Are you able to make one and sell it to me? If so, how much would you want?

The 71-72 body assembly manual shows a supersession date of 3/4/71 for the single grille support drawing. My 12/23/70 built Mach has the dual support.
Yeah, mine did as well (11/12/1970). It disappeared somewhere in the last 50+ years
