Apparently, in a '73 Batman comic entitled "And a Deadly New Year!" (or something like that), A '72 Mustang fastback was used as the basis as the Batmobile.

I am not a comic-book fan, but if there are any here, it would be interesting to see this tracked down!

 
I saw that online they also used a corvette and other regular cars in the early 70s comics.

The reference cartoon appears to be an attempt to emulate a

73 Mach 1. Of course cartoons have liberal license for sure. (louvers) LOL

edit: I can see how the stripe on the side could be a caricature of the Boss 351 - type stripe. kinda...

Thought I'd 'bump' this one for the new folks on here.

Interesting how much detail (NOT) went into the dash, door panels and striping.
