My Car
1973 Mach 1 Pro street
on the rotisserie now and will be doing a Coyote engine swap.
Anyone on here done a Coyote swap to there 71-73 Mustang. if so post some pictures and some details about the struggles of doing it. I have owned my 73 since 1975 and built it into a pro street with a 429 motor. It is currently on a rotisserie making room for the coyote. Thanks

I've heard that the coyote is a fat motor and doesn't want to fit between the shock towers. Even saw a guy who stuck an LS in his because its a narrower motor and fit easier. :p

For the earlier mustangs, they sell front clips/k-members that change your steering and suspension to give you more room under the hood and even have motor mounts for the coyote if you want them. I have not seen those for the 71-73 body style.

I wonder how difficult will it be to modify one of these aftermarket front clips for the older models to fit in our cars. Someone with enough skills with frames should be able to widen one of those k-members, or is there anything else I am missing:unsure:

Not sure how close the fit is. I know somebody with a welder and a cutoff wheel could make it work.

Here's one of those products. http://www.totalcontrolproducts.com/frontclip.html

The new 7.3L is only about 2 inches wider and1.5 inches longer than a 351W. People are already making silly power with them. Chuck

The aftermarket for the godzilla motors is finally starting to pick up. I haven't really seen a ton of swaps into classic cars yet.
Does the godzilla still need you to swap over to throttle-by-wire and electric power steering?

And it’s a pushrod engine, right?

Saw this one in Biloxi Miss in October. Very well done! Tried to find the owner to talk about it but couldn't.

Hi Prostreet73,
I have been looking for suspension upgrades for my 1973 also. The only shock tower replacement option I have seen so far for our cars is from
Scott’s Hot Rods. They build for any specific vehicle model manufactured between 1927 and 1987. https://www.scottshotrods.com/scotts-faqs/
Good luck with your build!

I assume the throttle is electric, I don't know about the steering. Yes, it is a pushrod engine. The performance potential is huge in my opinion. All I need is to win the lottery. Chuck

I believe if you look at CJ Pony parts in the aftermarket suspension section they have a conversion kit for putting in a rack and pinion steering. Looking farther into the options they list motor mount options for the Coyote engine, This would give you an excellent steering upgrade, suspension upgrade, and some other cool options.

Not bad pricing at all. However, I don't know if I like those air shocks. I would prefer some sort of coilover.

There’s a few coyote swaps on here. Gateway Performance makes everything to do the swap and retain most of the shock tower. It’s notched.

A friend of mine (who may be a member on here now) is doing a coyote swap in a 73 vert. His approach was to buy a 2000 and something mustang chassis and cut out the front frame member, suspension and rack steering and graft it into the 73 frame, then fabricate the motor mounts to get the ideal weight distribution (and fit the PS and PD components) This is not child's play, but he has quite a lot of experience doing this sort of stuff.
I'll email him and refer him to this post. I have to say, if I were wanting to do a resto-mod, this is the way I'd go too.
