couple quick questions. With a hydraulic roller cam and only a top end rebuild do I need to soak the lifters in oil prior to install and what oil should I use for break in? The only bottom end work performed was having the shop check bearing clearances and I installed a new melling standard volume oil pump and new oil pump drive shaft.

Thanks in advance.

you have a big advantage using a roller vs a flat cam.. use a pre-lube on bearings, cam, lifters. add some zinc or zddp additive to oil and let her rip. rollers are way different then flat's.. you really don't have a break in.. but don't fire it up and rev to 8 grand, start it up and let run for a few minutes at like 2 or 3 k, idle it down and ck timing.. drive it.. done

so std oil, and doing a pre-oil on the pump would be best but not necessary, but get the oil pressure up before u do any higher rev's.
