Best option for replacing or repairing Hood Hinges

The trick with that would be that the springs pull together to keep the hood open, and struts push apart to keep the hood open, correct me if I'm wrong. I suppose you could do a setup like they do in new cars where the strut is bolted to the hood and to the body/fender.

You wouldn't use the area where the spring is located now for a strut..You need two attaching points..One would be at the flat part that attaches to the hood by the first bolt..second would be maybe at the rear where the spring slips over..The real trick is finding the right size strut that could hold the weight of the hood but still be able to fit in the described area when closed..Most hoods on modern cars are pretty light
