- 1971 Mustang Spring Sport Edition Coupe -351W
Hi - I'm getting ready to change out my old radio for something up to date with more options. I am working on my 1971 Spring Sport Edition Mustang coupe. Here is a picture that the original owners gave me showing what it looked like in the early 70's. It was Lime Green with a white hard top. It has dark green interior. They gave me a box of parts with the car. In the box was a Philco AM radio. Installed in the car is a AM/FM radio of no special manufacturer. Now that I am getting to the point of reinstalling the interior, I thought maybe I would upgrade the radio. I'm not trying to keep the car perfectly original, so installing the old AM radio does not appeal to me. I want to see what other members bought and installed to upgrade their radios. Also, it would be good to hear about which radios to stay away from and the reasons, such as: did not fit in the faceplate, needs special speakers, cheap product, etc. Here are three pictures: The original 1971 Spring Sport picture, the original Philco AM radio, and the currently installed radio which I want to upgrade.
