Hi all,

I just wanted to follow up a previous thread I started.

I installed an Edelbrock Performer manifold & a Holley 770 Street Avenger carb on my 72 Mach 1.

Got it all timed & checked carb settings w/vacuum gauge. It was pretty close, just had to make a few adjustments.

Seems to be running pretty good, for sure better than it was.

I re-ran the fuel line, put in a better 1 piece fuel filter & set timing to 16 degrees b4 TDC. Still need to check full advance on distributor, but I think it's ok. No pings or knocks & the throttle response is way better than w/the 4300d. Just in time for this weekends car show @ the old Packard Proving Grounds in Shelby Twp. Mi. Should be a great event.

Anyway, here are a few pics. View attachment 28407View attachment 28408View attachment 28409View attachment 28410

Looks very nice. Does it run substantially better than stock?

I've only been on a couple of short drives so far, but I can feel a difference in throttle response. Much better than the stock carb.

Looks good. I would swap the PCV and breather cap to the opposite side to make refilling oil easier.
Thank's, I will once I have a chance to restore the original air cleaner assembly. I have a cheapo chrome air cleaner on for now. The valve covers are the push in type & I've been trying to find a oil/pcv cap. Can't find one. So this is temporary till I figure out how to modify a screw on cap to a push in type.

Looking really good!! My valve covers are the push in too. I modified an original twist cap to be a push in. It did involve a bit of cutting and TIG welding though!! Keep up the good work!!!

Thank you Omie01, what did you use for the part to weld on to make it a push in? I don't have a tig welder, but I do have a mig. Any advice or pics would be a great help. Thank's again!

This one from Mustangs Plus appears to be a push in closed (PCV) style:

Thank's Don C but none of those have a PCV valve.

I cut the push in part off with a hack saw, took the twist piece out of original twist on, and cut it back a bit with a hack saw. (you gotta make sure the little oil baffle stays in place) and TIG welded them together. I'm not sure if a wire feed is fine enough to work, you HAVE to make sure its air/water tight seal!

Ok, Thank's for the info. I was thinking about doing the same. Have same concern about mig welder not being fine enough. Think I will have to try to find a heaver metal piece to use for push on part. I'll figure out a way. Thank's again

I picked up a Spectre push in PCV valve breather from AutoZone for mine. Jegs may carry it as well.

Here is the description on Amazon. Says the PCV valve is in the breather.

I have it installed on the right side in this picture. Sorry I don't have a close up.

Glad to help.

Hey Thanks jsbcats! When I looked for this after you told me about it, I couldn't find it. All that kept coming up was the breather types. Thanks again. :)
