My original 70's handle was "sloppy Joe". I still use my c.b as i'm a Over the Road trucker but nodbdy uses handles much anymore.
So when you call another trucker do you just call them by the name of the carrier on the truck?

My brother worked for swift out of desperation for a month..Bosie cascade sold their trucking division he was working for and left him with out any work......He ended up leaving their swift truck full of goods at a swift truck yard and gave them the finger..They even tried to say they would sue him over it...He told them..He would turn them into the D.O.T For making him run way over the regular hours illegal with threat of loosing his job if he didnt...They never bugged him again....He still long halls..His call name is "ear wig"..A name i use to pick on him with as a kid..He hated it..Now he loves it..lol...btw that is right...not many use call signs anymore.

I have a cb in both my truck and my commuter car that I drive all over the place for work. I don't talk on it much but it is VERY helpful to know when there is a problem ahead on the interstate or if any bears are lurking around.

I hardly ever hear anyone on 19 use a handle but on the local channels people still use them. I have a vintage CB & antenna I think I'll put in my Mach 1 because the bracket for it is still attached to the dash...just seems like it is the period correct thing to do.

I've had a Cobra 40-channel I keep moving between my 4x4s since 1992. Picked a few of 'em up to caravan move my Mom from SLC, Utah. I had to drive the 25-ft Ryder truck, so mine for that trip was 'Big Bird.'

When I'd go wheelin' with the local 4x4 club, we'd always run Channel 4 but rarely used handles.

I forgot that we use them in my hunting club on channel 36. In real life everyone calls me Don but someone in the club called me Donnie on the radio & that stuck so I guess the closest thing I have to a handle would be that.

Well, I didn't have a handle as I was under age 13 during the '70s, so I guess I would have been considered "Cargo" in trucker terms. My parents however both had handles, they were:

"Midnight" - my Dad, because he always got home at midnight from flying with the Nebraska air guard

"Prime Rib" - my Mom, get yer mind out of the gutter--she could and still can cook a mean prime rib. While I was just a kid, maybe there was a joke there I didn't and still don't want to get...
