center gauges pic's

my stang does not have the center gauge package. i'd consider getting a panel with the gage openings but don't want to spend arm and leg. but my questions is does anyone have a picture of what they did to install gages. i have gages now but it's UGLEY. thinking of maybe the aftermkt 3 gage holder and fasten somewhere.... don't know. pic is what former owner did. they work but YUK.

I made up a gauge panel and installed Bosch downsweep gauges as they are somewhat close to the original look. Oil and temp are mechanical plus a volt meeter.
Note for the sharp eyed, the box above IS upside down and since corrected.
I found a cheap center stack that I reworked to fit the new gauges. The bracketry doesn't need to be that fancy!!! I think a set of the original gauges could be reworked also to install new gauges.

i would rather use the center section with gages but wow is that pricey. i have that hole above on the upper area and was thinking or trying to think of some way to mount gages there.

I used a simple plastic plate for the two upper air vent cavity gauges which are 2-1/16" diameter. You may want to relocate your tach to the top of your steering column Bill.

That is similar to what I started with. I chose to make my own bracketry, but after looking at the gauge pod, it wouldn't be too hard to install new gauges,

I just pulled my stock radio and used that space for gauges. Most of the time, I like listening to the motor but when I do want to listen to music, I have a little bluetooth speaker and use my cellphone. But my car is just to play around in. Nothing to show.

Look on ebay and just get the center panel. Then go to summit and get the VDO gauges. You will need to use a dremel tool to very slowly and carefully enlarge the gauge opening to fit the VDO gauges in. Since your car did not come with them(mine did not as well) if you find the original factory ones they have to be wired thru the instrument voltage regulator behind the speedometer that attached to the circuit board because they are not 12v. If you direct wire them with 12v it can cause an electrical fire. Took way to many hours of internet trolling to figure it out. So I did the VDO gauges. I still have a center panel with original gauges.

EDIT: I just took a boo through my original post and it seems like all the pictures are no longer there. I think this was before the latest upgrade to the site.

I purchased the center dash panel from Don at Ohio Mustang (yes, it was pricey), and then used a dremel to slightly modify the gauge openings to allow the VDO gauges to fit. Once they were secure, I made a wiring harness to allow the gauge cluster to plug into the aftermarket wiring harness. Hopefully a few pictures will give you some ideas.

I went with the VDO gauges too. I made a bracket and mounted it to the back of the bezel without having to modify the holes. Ryan.
