Hey guys,

I am thinking of some detailing aspects of my engine bay in parallel to my engine compartments restauration.

Am I right that the correct color power steering pump is a semi gloss black? With oversprayed dip stick? Have seen some like that...

Seen many in black but also some in blue - mine is blue but that is an overspray...

Thanks,

Tim

Here is one of the best sites I have seen for the correct paints & coatings. http://429mustangcougarinfo.50megs.com/
John,

thanks.

Hehehe, I know this great site and I have absorbed the infos on this like Sponge Bob over the past but in this case they remain a little vague - I need real pumps!

Show you pumps, please

:D:D:D

Since you asked... ;)

Mine's black with a black pulley and bracket.

Keep in mind, though - mine's restomod, which means:

  • I painted my engine Duplicolor "Old Ford Blue" (vice Corporate Blue), because I wanted to
  • I painted my brackets Duplicolor engine enamel gloss black, because I wanted to
  • I painted my pulleys Duplicolor engine enamel gloss black, to match the black pulleys that came with the A/C compressor and power steering pump
  • The power steering pump is black because it came that way from O'Reilly Auto Parts

Hope this helps.

Funny you should ask. I am pulling my engine this weekend, originally just to paint it but once it is out I am replacing all kinds of stuff. I was wondering the same thing. Like Mister 4x4, I will be painting mine new gloss black as well as all my pulleys but for personal preference. If it helps any, on my 302 when it came to me stock the power steering was black, but it was matte instead of gloss. Idk if it was because of age or if it was original..

Thank you - that helps a lot! I think the original color was a kind of a semi gloss black so that could be right on yours.

I too have pulled my engine and trans. My bay will be all semi-gloss black and all brackets, pulleys and components will be done in gloss black. Since I pulled the numbers matching engine and FMX trans and replacing it with a 408 stroker, C6 trans (beefed) and a Detroit locker, so much for numbers matching. It's my car. I'll keep the aluminum parts and stuff on the wheel wells their original color I'll be polishing all of the aluminum. Why? I think it looks cool. I'll keep the charcoal canister blue just to through some original color under the hood, but when ya lift the hood there is no hiding that modified 351C. I'm not selling the car. When I die my son can deal with it. He'll have all the original parts and can turn it back to a 351-2v with an FMX trans and sell it as a numbers matching car. But for now... it's MY car and although I do want to keep it "period correct" it is going to be modified. I did the same with my Corvette and Ranchero. These are my toys and I can play with them the way I want to.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

MCA's judging sheets call for the Semi Gloss Black.

I painted mine 2 yrs ago, with the wrong color Power steering paint, but I like it this color :)

Its what Mustangs unlimited sells as Power steering pump paint 65-73

Although it might be the wrong color it looks good! I like your engine bay - love the inspection decals ::thumb::

Mike,

nothing speaks against it - everybody could do what he think it's best to have fun out of it!

Your build sounds like a good plan!

Have fun,

Tim

The pump should be semi-gloss black and the dipstick should be light galvanized (dull silver). Chuck

I believe the ps reservoir is a blue metallic color that I bought from Eastwoods and the pulley and holder is a semi gloss or satin black.[attachment=31201)

Info I have says black

Also Chuck's is black and that is a MCA judged and award winning car
