Did you get married in a Mustang?

Hey guys and gals,

I have been going through stuff and going to have a big garage yard sale next week. Just way too much stuff. While going through the bins and boxes I found my wedding pictures from the 70's. Hey I don't remember the year 76 or 77, lol. We split in the mid 80's so long gone.

Anyway thought you might want to see the abuse they put my Mach 1 through. I warned the guys no shoe polish only shaving cream and toilet paper or they would pay dearly. I went straight to the .25 cent car wash 1/2 mile from the church and washed the car, lol. Then to the party.

The shiny picture was made just after the wedding when I put the car in the barn. If you look close in the picture you can see the blue plastic covered chain I out around the hood and put pad lock on so they could not open the hood. It was a common thing to put sardines on the engine and stinks like crazy.

The car was full of rice when I cleaned to put in storage. No way was I going to let her drive the car. She crashed ever car she had and some multiple. She had a 1974 Nova SS at the time.

We went to party at hotel in Asheville then to my place and did not sleep got out early and Steve Parris drove us to Atlanta to catch flight to Acapulco Mexico. It was less than $800 for two at the Acapulco Princess for a week. Went back again in a  couple years had a blast.

That is how quick life goes by. That car has sat there always thinking I would work on it next week but never happened. 12,200 miles on it, 32 factory installed options and I will probably never see it run again.

David, does driving one to Family Court for a divorce hearing count?! I was actually driving a Cougar XR-7 for my get away car when I got married to my now Ex!

I figured you were talking about the early to mid 70's when you mentioned a 25 cent car wash and $800 for a week stay for two at the Acapulco Princess.

Sure hope your wrong about not seeing your 73 on the road again. Too many things make that a very unique car. Basically the last performance car from the first generation Mustang. (The 73-74 Q and 429 Gran Torinos were too heavy and under powered to be any threat) So the Mustang was the sole performance car left to wave the Ford banner. (The Pantera was not sold through Ford Dealerships)

An original owner car with 12.000 miles, 32 options, and pretty much still in the same configuration as it left Dearborn is something people need to see!

You should contact the Mustang Museum in Charlotte to see about displaying your Mach 1 when they open!

I actually got marrried in a church.  ( we are Catholic like that.)  But drove away in the Mach 1.

Here is the funny part.  The Mach 1 was definitely weathered and in need of restoration, but it still was nice on the inside and drove well.  Our wedding was in 1995, and my daily driver was a Maroon 88 Thunderbird TurboCoupe in excellent shape.  We had invited all out family, then my rowdy friends and fraternity brothers.  I was afraid the decoration of the car would scratch the paint on the T-Bird, so we opted to drive the Mach since we KNEW we would get messed with.

Upon departure, there was not even a toilet paper square within 50 foot of the Mach 1.  No signs, shoe polish, cans or streamers anywhere!

Upon return from the Honeymoon I surveyed the rowdy bunch to ask what had happened.  The response was hilarious.

"Well Mash, we knew how much you loved the Mach 1 and had taken such good care it, we all figured you would kill whoever touched that car.

Yep. We had the Mach 1 in the wedding. Here’s  a couple pics.  We have a really nice one of my wife’s reflection in the blackout of the hood. I will try to find it.

Oh, you want me to elaborate I guess.

I actually bought the car 3 weeks prior to our wedding so it was clear we'd use it. Before that I had asked a friend to provide his hot rod 1950 Ford F1.

The funny thing is that most people (even family) didn't even know I'd bought the car so everyone asked me whose it was and where I found someone who'd rent it out.
