They were quite the aircraft, looked like a fighter should. With the stubby wings, the power-out landing procedure was hit the ejection seat, they had the glide ratio of a rock.

I still think my favorite was the F-86, though, but I'm an O.F.

Yup they sure did...My cousin learned in engineering school from one of the guys who worked on that project back in the 50's....He said that the wings where too small for it to fly well..But alot of hidden secrets in them wings....They ended up channeling engine heat threw little holes built into the wings...So it could make its own hot air pocket over the wings to help it with lift..lol

He told him that the plane got a bad rep cause germans and other countries started using it as a low level attack plane..Which it was only intended to chase down high alt bombers and fighters...The germans and other countries had a bit high death toll in them..But countries like spain..Never lost one f-104...lol..I guess it had to do with pilot training and making it do low level ground attack rolls...Which as we know..Best for a warthog or something...Be like making a warhog a high alt fighter interceptor...I dont know what they was thinking..ehhe

I like the f86 my self..Got a big model of one of them...classic jet..I like the super saber too...Cold war jets where too cool...First time pushing the edge with speed tech...Funny thing is...The cold war jets would kick butt on our modern ones in a race...Today with so many missles and tech..We dont feel the need for speed anymore..lol

Our son was in the Marines and maintained the heads-up displays and computers in F-18s. He passed at the head of his class during advance training. My wife and I went to his graduation ceremonies and they treated us to a tour, including a close look at a fully loaded F-18. I was amazed at how much ordinance was hanging on it. They also pushed a maintenance platform up to it so we could look inside. Couldn't get into the cockpit, though, they didn't want to take the chance that we might push the wrong button and launch something or punch out through the hangar roof :)

We also got to stand at the edge of the runway and watch F-18s practicing touch and goes.

A very memorable day for my wife and I...

Ohh yes...They are very afraid of that happening...My Uncle was a Chief on board the USS Carl Vincent..He told me to watch out too.. and that some accidents "including pulling the ejection seat"" happened in the carrier before and splattered some unlucky person all over the place...F-18 is a good bird..And they can carry some ords thats for sure.....They just got the f-18 on deck when i was there...they was still runing mostly F-14's and A4's when i was on board...They sure are loud arent they?..Carrier deck was the loudest place on earth i ever been...even with 2 sets of ear plugs pushed in your ears you will still be holding your ears and begging for a set of ear muffs they have..lol...But once you put on there muffs..all you hear is your heart beating pretty much..lol...What a cruze!! I'll never forget that...He got me on all sorts of cool ships thou...Almost a ride on a nuke sub,...But that did not pan out...lol

Ill have to dig out some of my photo's..They did the wall of water and everything..Jet comes by and drop enough bombs to make a huge long wall of water..lol...What a show....I will never forget it.
