I have been off of the forum for some time now due to some high demands at work. As of January 1st however, I have retired. I have not really done anything with my two Mach 1's for the last 4 years because of my schedule. Now I have all the time in the world! First order of business is to get my automatic Mach 1 running right. So far, I have found 3 major vacuum leaks using my new vacuum pump. One was in the vacuum tree on the firewall - a fracture at the base of one of the vacuum connections. Another one was where an unused vacuum line at the transmission was plugged with a bolt. That is why I will be doing my own work from now on even if it takes me 5 times longer. Here is the car coming out of hibernation.

Congrats on retirement! Two years into it myself, takes a little time to get used to it:p

Enjoy the time with your cars! Looks beautiful!

That is one gorgeous '73. Love the colour. And congrats on the retirement. You're gonna love it!

Been retired 2 years myself, and I have a sign in my garage that sums it up perfectly: "Life begins at retirement."

Welcome back Steve,

Hope you enjoy your retirement. Wish i was in your shoes - i'm 60 and i've got another 7 years of work ahead before i can retire.:-/

You'll be able to really pamper your cars now and give them the best of attention and love.::thumb::

Take care,

Greg.:)

Congrats on reaching the retirement phase. I'm sure you have been told or heard that you will be amazed at how fast your free time will fill up. It's great that you have a couple nice cars to tweak to top performance. Obviously, I'm a fan of the Blue Glow.

As warm as this winter season had been so far, we still have a few months before serious cruising begins.

Congradulations on your retirement. I retired this past fall. So far my time in the garage is minimal, catching up on the many years of "honey do" items. Hope that you can find a balance of car time and must do things times.

A suggestion that was given to me and I used with good results. If you run into a vacuum problem, spray the area in question with a can of gumout and listen for the change in the idle.

Mac

Welcome back and congrats on your retirement. More than 20 years to go for this young man ;-)

Did you make a hole in your cover for the antenna? I'd be scared to break my antenna when removing the cover so I always have the antenne screwed out and flat...

Hi Vinnie,

My wife got that car cover for me back in 1983 and it came with a hole for the antenna. I have had lots of practice putting it on and taking it off. I used it everyday when I drive my Mustang to work in Southern California. No antenna mishaps yet:D

Thanks! I still feel like I am on vacation but I can see me getting used to this retirement thing.

Thank you! My buddies at work gave me a T-shirt that says "Retired - Not my problem anymore". That pretty much sums it up. I had a great career though - wouldn't trade it for anything.

Thanks Greg. I took the opportunity to retire early at 57. Got the kids through college and everything else paid off. My wife and I are going to be spending time in Florida and Arizona during the winters and of course I will be finally getting to spend some time on my Mach 1's after all of these years.

Thanks Bill - I do love that Blue Glow paint:) I know what you mean about my time filling up during the day. Not sure how I had time to work before! It has been near 60 degrees here the last two weeks so I have had both cars fired up and running. Unusual for the winter - usually I don't get them out for another 3 months.

Thanks for that tip Mac. I was working on it yesterday and have verified I have no further intake manifold vacuum leaks. Still only pulling 13 in at idle though. It is about 20 at 3000 RPM but it sounds like I may have a timing issue. More work today.

Wow that is so awesome. Welcome back to you and I am looking forward to seeing your progress [sMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES][THUMBS UP SIGN]
