I have been reading about how comp cam flat tappet lifters are junk from overseas. I am rebuilding a 351 cleveland and have a lot of money in the machining and balancing of the motor do not want crappy lifters, So my question is
1. Are comp cam lifters really junk?
2. What are a really good lifter manufacturer for the 351 cleveland.

Thanks.

Perhaps my memory is failing a bit. Contact Brent at: https://lykinsmotorsports.com/ He will know if Morel makes a hydraulic flat tappet lifter at .875 no matter what name it is sold under. And if not, he will point you in the right direction. Chuck

I would not use Comp lifters (hydraulic). I had issues with them in my Cleveland. It wasted a lot of my time. I am still running the Comp cam but with Crower lifters. I have a set of Isky lifters I bought a while ago that I will use when I change the cam.

If you decide to not use the Comp Cam scam and lifters, I suggest you invest in a more costly, but superior, set of hydraulic roller lifters and cam kit. Also, avoid using the nylong/plastic tipped timing gears, get all metal. I prefer double roller configurations for the timing gears and chain.

With the hydraulic roller lifters and cam you will not have to chase down engine oil with Zinc in it, or add Zinc to it. You can still use engine oil with Zinc in it if you like, but since you are not using a flat tappet valve train the Zinc is no longer needed to protect the lifters and cam lobes from excessive wear. My preference for oil is AmsOil Z-Rod 10/30. They offer Z-Rod in a few different weights, but all synthetic AmsOil Z-Rod products have Zinc, which is designed to protect flat tappet valve trains components.

++ on the Isky
Hey Cleveland crush, how do the Isky lifters work for you? I got the "quiet" version of their lifters. I wanted to hoard a bunch of parts while they were still made in America, affordable and still available. I became a Cleveland auto part hedge fund. LOL. I think I made a smart play considering how much those lifters cost now. Over $200.00 for a set!!

Thanks.
Ron
