hi folks,

it's 7 in the morning and today is the big day where i can finally pick up my boss from the paint shop. i waited for this day 13 months......i'll be posting pictures when i'm back in vienna!

hi,

after getting on the road with our 68 vw beetle, steffi and i met up with a few other mustangers. we drove down toward graz which is around 2oo km south east of vienna. after having lunch we drove up the mountain to my painter and picked up the boss. all in all we were around 12 people and everyone was just as excited as i was. getting the boss down to the trailer was a challenge. since the brakes don't work yet we had to break the "fall" a little with a rope. it's always good to have a bunch of people to get the job done :) thanks guys!!!

Wow! The car looks great and second Wow! Between your Boss, the other Mustangs, the Chevy Silverado, the Denali, The Dodge Ram and the Camaro, I've never seen that much North American Iron all together in Europe before.

 
well, there are few people around here that have american hardware. since we aren't really a big bunch of us drivers, we stick together like glue. we all help each other. all of us have a certain specialty, mine being that i speak english. the painters workshop is truly breath taking. everytime i drove up there, which was a few times, i admired the view. i do a lot of paragliding and that area is also known among paragliders so i admired it even more.

i'll try to pick up the pace within the next few weeks. i'll be posting a lot more now that the cars in my garage.

i was always out of the "no fly zone" in innsbruck. don't want to end up paying the fuel for detouring the planes :)

 
hi,

the boss has been sittin' in my garage for a week now and i decided to start the rebuild. this is the result of 2 days:

the rear end is pretty much done, the wiring is is back in the car, the dash is back in place, the sound deadned the wheel housings as well as the floors, the doors and the cavities were treated with wax...so pretty much on track so far. i want to drop the engine and tranny back into the car on sunday so that might be a little exciting :) i'll keeps you guys posted :)

Everything down to the engine looks factory fresh.... I'm impressed! You guys are doing one hell of a job! Keep up the amazing work and hope to see it completed soon.

hi,

tomorrow will be putting the engine back into the car :)

until we can do that, i had to put in all the stuff in the engine bay. i doubled checked all the cables and the hoses because once that engine is in place i'm not too keen on taking it out again.

i repainted the white KYB shocks to black to keep the original look. the splash shields, the locks, the side windows, headliner, the ground cables, the starter cabling...and so on were reinstalled. i kinda lost track of what i did the last few days. i am posting a bunch of pictures and i commented those so you guys can get an idea of the progress of the reassembly.

Just wondering what you used and did here

Is this the modern replacement of the sound deadener they sprayed inside the doors and 1/4 etc.

I am not real keen on replacing the old sound deadener once the old cracked stuff is cleaned up.

This sounds like a better solution to rust pervention in the car cavities, or is this used in conjuction with new sound deadener?

 
The wax is a rust prevention. It has almost no sound deadening effect.

In Europe there are two accepted ways of chemical aftermarket corrosion protection methods:

- waxes. They are the most common because they are used by the major car manufaturers at the factory

- fats and oils. The fats have the advantage over the waxes that they never harden or shrink. They crawl when they get warm and close in any beginning rust process, preventing further contact of oxygen and moisture to the metal.

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland mostly fats are used in classic car restorations or conservations. The most famous is the "Mike Sander's Corrosion Prevention Fat". It has won several long-term tests under scientific conditions.

Advantage of the fat is the reliable protection over a long time, a major disadvantage is the "sweating-out" on hot days. The car begins to drop stains of molten fat. Another con is the complex processing with hot, sticky fat in big heated pots and the use of heated spray guns.

This is the reason why a lot of restorers use waxes in their home environment.
