Coming along nicely. Cam is a good choice slightly bigger than a mopar purple cam similar to a hemi grind should make for some no muss fun.

Your thread always reminds me how much I like chrysler stuff.

Thx Jim and Luke,

It should be around the same HP that it was in stock form. I used their CompQuest tool and it says that I should have around 395 HP and 466 ft/lb of torque which is a little more than stock. Hoping to be completed with the motor towards the end of the month. Plans are to start disassembly of the car in June and try to have all body prep work done by the end of summer and ready for paint. The unknown is that Passon 5 spd and when it will be available for me. They don't tell you how much of a backorder that they have or how many they produce each month. If plans work out I am hoping to have it on the road again next summer.

Had exhaust seats replaced with hardened ones to be compatible with the lead free gas. Also going to use this 4V intake to break the motor in with. I don't want to try to get all the carbs sync'd while breaking in the motor. Will add the 6 pack stuff once the 20 min run is done to break in the cam and its sitting in the car again.

John don't know if you know about Hughes Engines. Mopar only preformance specialists good source for hot rod stuff.Their cams and valve gear are good quality. Sorry couldn't get the link to attach and I probably should of told you about them earlier just FYI.

Breaking everything in with the 4brl will save a few headaches.

Thx, I didn't know about them. Not trying to make a really high HP motor so I think that I should be good. Not going to do Qtr mile runs, dyno or race it.

Hoping to find the build sheet when I start tearing into it so I can use all the correct items it came with.

Also I found a place that is fairly close to me that does the exhaust. It's 2 1/2" to the mufflers and then 2 1/4" tailpipes (turndowns). Do you think that 2 1/2" tailpipes will make much difference? This is the place:

Here is a sound clip of the basic system with 2 1/4" tailpipes:

That is a nice looking Dart. I don't think the tail pipes will make a noticeable difference.

John here is how I see cars like yours. Its just my opinion so feel free to disregard it. You have a damn cool car and looking at the options it was brought new to be a racer/sleeper with that in mind my own personal flavour would be to take it down the day 2 custom route. I would collect all the correct stock parts and have them available. I however would be more than happy with running different wheels, pipes and induction as I think back in the day I would of brought it home day 1 then taken it to get wheel exhaust etc the anyway. so essentially I would have a 95% correct restoration with 5% being all about my personal enjoyment and all the correct parts available for the collectors or for the time you want it 100% stock. My 2cents mate.

Thx Luke,

What you are thinking about is the way I went with my Mustang. I made it more of a performance car but kept all the original pieces so that it cold be restored to factory specs again in the future.

So far I am going with the Passon performance 5 spd (A855) only because it looks just like the A833 but I do have the matching numbers 4 spd in case I want to go back to original. Going with an H-pipe exhaust and 15" Ralley wheels with Goodyear Tires. I think it had the 14" police type rims but not sure. I am committed on the motor as it's not matching numbers however its a period correct 440-6 HP motor with a 1970 cast date and they are getting hard to find. I do have a 69 440 with a 4 barrel that is built up to put out over 500 HP that I can put in if I have that need for speed;)

Thx for your advice and comments.

I disagree mufflers are the most restrictive point, tail pipe's won't play that big role if gas temp and velocity is still up. Sorry John don't want to start an argument in your thread so I will say no more.

cams carbs and exhaust will do this often sure way to lose friends lol

I have never played with dodge engines, that being said, the design of the bottom end looks remarkably stout! I can see why people like them.

Your work looks very meticulous. I'd be amazed if it turned out to be anything other than an awesome beast.

Thx Jeff,

That engine weighs 670lbs, lots of iron there and support on the bottom end. I think the 351C weighs around 550lbs.

I am hoping that this build goes good and hopefully done by next summer.

Heads are on and finishing the odds and end now. Going to be painted this weekend if it's not too cold and then the 20 min break in run for the cam. I will try to get some pics up soon with the completed motor and a video of it running.

Found a set of the correct exhaust manifolds. These were only on the 70-71 440 motors and were a little difficult to find. Going to blast them to clean them up and the paint with hi-temp VHT paint.
