Hi guys,

I need advise.

I am just installing an MSD Street Fire 5520 ignition box which has a separate wire for the tacho.

How can I use the original tacho with the MSD ign. box ?-How do I do the connection as the original tacho is needed to get the ignition current through but with the MSD box it does not get the rpm's signal through the original wiring.

thank you !

MSD has a tach adapter that will allow your tach to work. Go to the MSD site and there is info on this.

Another option is to get your existing tach converted to modern movements and circuitry by RCCI Innovations. Rocketman Bob McMullen does top notch work. I went with the dummy light conversion to tach and it works perferct with my pertronix ignitor coil. I was using an aftermarket tach but always had issues with the needle bouncing, even with resistors in series.

If you do the conversion the wiring is easy - power, ground, coil (-).

THank you for your comment.

My car is a 71 Mach 1. Can you tell me if I can use the same 8920 ( current driven) or 8910 ( voltage driven) amplifier ?

thanks again
