Phone holder

I'm curious about what kind of solution you came up with to hold your phones. The dash having this inverted angle vs newer cars limits the options.
Since I've upgraded to a newer, bigger better, gooder phone with also a more heavy (batt). The thingy I was using with my old lighter phone fails and it keeps falling. It was also too far anyway, so I'm about to fab a new bracket and mix it with some of these plastic holders.

But before I do, I wonder what you guy did come up with so I can shamelessly copy the best solution!

I just put it in the console glove box. I don't need to talk text while I drive and navigation is easier in Texas than Europe.

That's what I'm forced to do now or keep it in pocket, but I miss be able to toggle music via carplay, navigation.

I've got a silicone (I think) holder I bought from one of the 3 auto parts chains.
I use it on my dash, phone upright horizontal for GPS and forward camera. Phone laying flat for HUD. Laying on front slope of the center console for "normal" use.

I used a combination of a magnet base, with an adapter and a phone clamp. The magnet works well against the metal of the dash pad. I use it to hold the phone for navigation and also to record when racing. I can't remember if this is the magnet I use for racing or if I upgraded to a bigger one. It's not a cheap combo but I needed something robust that can handle all the g's.

I am on the road, but will try to see if I can access my hard drive servers and pick off some photos for you, and dig up Amazon parts I used. In short, I installed two adhesive mounted stands (2) with magnetic heads. I used self adhesive metal discs mounted to the iPhone cases. Works great, and if you want to use the iPhone or even iPad for GPS navigation the magnetic heads are plenty strong to hold the unit in place.

We do not have triple gauges on our 73 Mustang center vertical bezels, as we installed Dakota VHX analog gauge instrument panels in both 73 Mustangs. So, where the gauge would have gone we have a "Mustang" filler plate. I used heavy duty double sided adhesive tape to mount a 2 x 2 x 1 Acrylic block, then used self tapping screws (after drilling pilot holes) to mount a mount for our Garmin Drive 71 GPS and backup camera unit display. Turned out really nicely, and plenty durable. As with the phone mount photos and parts I will try to dig up that info despite being away from my PCs and drive servers. Please stand by.

I hope you find the above link useful, as well as the Amazon & Home Depot links below, I used to get the various phone/pad and Garmin Drive 51 mounts and related parts. I tried different parts between the two 73 Mustang, and found all of the parts I used to work well, none was clearly superior over the other. That said, for the double stick tape, be sure to use a really good alcohol wipe to clean the surface of the plastic vertical bezel before attaching the 2 x 2 x 1 (or other size if you like) Acrylic block with the double sided tape. And, if you decided to use the self tapping screws to attach the Garmin ball mount to the Acrylic plastic block, I suggest you drill some adequately long pilot holes into the block first, and use its self adhesive flat surface to hold the mount onto the Acrylic block before beginning to drill the pilot holes.

That's a pretty neat solution. Probably very stabile/strong too.

@MooseStang, never thought of having the phone on top like this.

@mrgmhale Pretty cool. I have myself butchered a new chinese 10.5 inch monitor android to fit it into the console. Dang inverted angle! One of my too many plans is to make a new console entirely in aluminium and have it higher as it sits too low for my taste, basically have the monitor where the gauges are and have them bellow. But for now, I simply want to have my phone at reach distance.... I think I'm gonna look at making something like Tony did.
