The numbering system starts with 100001 which based on your VIN makes your Mustang number 39,722 of the total Mustangs built at that plant for 1972.

More specifics can be garnered from a Marti Report (if you don't already have one) at 623-935-2558. They have a web site which describes the products and services they provide - - just goggle "Marti reports."

Hope this helps.

Serial Numbers: Ford serial numbers start with 100001. Lincoln and Mercury serial numbers start with 500001, 600001, or 800001 depending on make and year. For this reason, if you have, for example, a Mustang with serial number 100106, our report will list it as the 106th car scheduled for production.

So not necessarily the 106th "mustang" built but car built on that line
