Rear valence 72 fastback question

Car is in shop so I cannot supply pics.  The rear valence currently on it shows slight gaps on the sides where it meets the lower quarter panels.  Is that normal, if not how are they attached to each other to eliminate any gap.  I hope to replace my existing valence with one with exhaust cutouts.

There should be a small gap. There are special tabs on the back side of the panel that accept special attaching hardware. Chuck
