I’m working on building a two spoke steering wheel from scratch. I received these parts from a seller on eBay and wondering if this is how they’re supposed to look when they come together. I imagined that the wood grain piece would slide right into the horn pad, but it looks like it will still stick out a bit as seen in the photos. Would you please let me know if I have the right parts (they were listed as being for a 73 Mustang). Right now the car and actual steering wheel base are in storage so I can’t access them, however, I know that the horn pad fits perfectly onto the steering wheel.

I believe I ran into a similar issue for some parts I bought. Nothing would fit.

Original rubber parts can/do shrink over time.

I have a 73 convertible and happen to have my steering wheel apart as part of a project I'm presently doing. The numbers on my parts match yours, so I'm sure you have the correct pieces. Here's pictures of my parts and fit up. I also attached the Parts Illustration drawing for your reference. I'm currently waiting on the retainer clips that's highlighted in yellow on that drawing. I didn't think it was a big deal, but in putting mine together, I think this is needed to keep the rubber cover over the horn switch tight to the plastic trim piece so it doesn't bulge out at the ends. Hope this helps,
Bob
