I am stuck waiting on the AC, so I finished the trunk and textured it so I can run the wiring bundle. I used a gray/white spatter paint over 3 coats of rustoleum, after I stripped an 1/8th inch of tar, and several layers of paint, and treated the minor rust with phosphoric acid….also had some patches welded in, and new bumper supports added. This stuff from JEGS has a nice tone and texture, and will keep the trunk light, which will help my old eyes…

also climbed under, changed speedo cable, adjusted a shift interlink, and unbundled a shift light i had rapped up last year….

Looks great! Nice progress.

finally some decent progress.
still no AC to install.

but rear wiring is mostly done. Have to do fuel tank, but the body plug American Autowire sent is a little small. It will work with generous amounts of sealer but I am not ready for that….

the convertible top, rear lights are all complete up to dash connector. It’s not permanent in its routing and tie down but you get the idea. I also have one courtesy light bundle not completed.

Also built a new Map light out of an RV LED dome light kit. Will wire it in to the AAW a kit, maybe courtesy lights, maybe independent with switch. It works with a 9v battery. 😀

More console work, fresh paint, it’s going to sit next to blue and white seats, and white side panels…colors are looking good together!35E2FF70-FA4A-44EB-9166-0FD03E045016.jpeg

That looks really nice. I may end up painting (dying) the center console on one or both of our 73 Mustangs. Currently they are the original ABS black they came in, which frankly looks nice. But, in Ginger to match the rest of the interior would be nice, and just may set a nice tone to the kind of care the two Mustangs get..

It’s not horribly difficult…actually easy…washed with hot soapy water and scrubbed with cloth, greeny and sponge, cleaned narrow areas with Qtips, then layed Masking tape on chrome and cut with razor blade to fit. Sprayed with SEM adhesion promoter and paint from NPD(expensive) 1 can for console. Then touched up chrome with pen from Hobby Lobby.

Thought I would throw out an AC update.
wasn’t ready in 8 weeks as promised.
wasn’t ready at end of the 12th week as promised.
now the promise is START production Monday.
getting tired of the story changing.

And an update on other progress…I have moved to door cavities, my least favorite and most dreaded task on the entire car….
been grinding with wire brush and cleaning, the drivers door is off a 73, and not so bad, the passenger door has been rebuilt once and has rust on the rebuilt part, but it’s mostly surface rust. However the top internal structure is a bit rusted out… not sure how I am gonna handle it….lost of phosphoric acid and Mastercoat sealer to come!

More stuff, I thought the drivers door was a little better, but it’s not….a little Swiss cheese on bottom…. the doors will eventually come off and be repaired….

At least the drivers door seems like an easier repair, that rust is much easier to cut out and replace with good metal. the passenger door, not so much.
