is there any way to ajust the starter on my 351c it sounds like my small block chevy did before i shimed it and its a new starter. any ideas?

Not sure but i have never shimmed any ford starters i have ever owned. But i have had some of the teeth wear off the starter gear and make some pretty loud noises like those GM starters!

There is a shim made for Ford starters. I used one when the gear engaged too far and wore into the bendix clutch. It just spaces the starter straight back.

Do you have the metal plate between the motor and trans that locates the starter?

Yes it was there... the shim was necessary with the C-6.
