For you DIYers, I had to do some bodywork on my hood, and thus needed a repaint. So being the kind of guy that likes to do things myself (cheap, I didn't want to spend a bunch of $$$ for a template) I found a diagram for the black out. the easy way to get symmetry, is to just tape the curvature, and make a quick template of some light paper or vellum. Then just use the hood edges as a
locator and trace the curve. Now you can just flip it, and match the other side perfectly. I can't say how accurate the diagram is, but this is my driver, so accuracy is not imperative. This is really just a how-to if you need to do anything symmetrical on your car.
Hope this might help some other DIYers...

If you haven't laid down the paint yet, bring the pattern forward the width of the hood trim. You're about 3x the width of the trim back from the front edge of the trim, vs the 2x as shown in the diagram.

Thanks!
It's just the angle of the picture. The measurement is incorrect in the illustration. The trim is 1 1/4" wide and they say double it, which is too far away. Mine is actually set at 2".

2 inches is about right. Purists might say 1 7/8" but who cares about 1/8" on this.
I've mentioned many times that when I had my hood black-out done, I used the Graphics Express template, but my painter only used it as a guide and laid out the shape accordingly. However, when I told him to set it 2" from the front, I forgot the front trim piece was not yet on, so now mine is set 3" from the front edge. That's on me for not checking. However, this is seen sooooo many times on many cars and to be honest, only the purists will know......... or care.

That sucks, but I can see that happening. And when I was looking through hood pictures, it looks like everyone did their own thing, as almost no 2 are alike. I personally don't like the "too rounded" bottom corners, so I'm making them tighter. And you are correct, only the anoraks would know, and it can bug them, not me...lol

Looks better than before, but still looks to far back. Here’s a pic of what I had done. The pattern is 2” back from the front of the hood trim, not the front of the hood.
