Tire sizes

Tried to search through the forum but couldn’t find the info. The tires my 73 came with are dry rotted and will need to be replaced. Since I’m doing the motor/tranny rebuild soon I’m going to be ordering some tires. They are currently 205 75 R14. Everything I look up says trailer tires. Sticking with the current rims, what tire size should I go with here?

Try searching for 215/70R14. This will give you a slightly wider tire and about the same diameter, and should fit your wheels. Try Discount Tire or Tire Rack online. If they have them most of your local tire stores will too.

Awesome! All the info I needed. I’ll be getting some rims I really like on down the road, but between motor/tranny/exhaust, my bank account is tapping out

215/70 or 225/70 will work fine. I ran 225s for many years. Cooper Cobras will give you a white letter look at about 75% of Radial TA prices.

That looks great. I just wasn’t sure how wide I would be able to go before I would need to swap the rims. Or have clearance issues in the front

I'm currently running a 255/60R15 in the front on 15X8 and it *just* kisses the frame rail at a full left lock turn.

I’m running 225/70/14 no problems although I’m wishing I would’ve gone with 225/60/14 for rear

Rodger that on the CC’s. They didn’t have my size and I put on the TA’s and yes, the browning affect started about two weeks after they were on. Performance is good but scrubbing them white is really annoying.

For the wide whites on my motorcycle (cruiser) I use Simple Green full strength with a green Scotchbrite pad. Works pretty well. Back in the day when I ran RWL tires, I would use a product called Bleche-Wite that I bought at Pep Boys. I sprayed it on, let it sit for a few, then used a tire scrub brush on the letters. This also worked well. Now I run black wall tires on all my cars and after washing them with Simple Green I use a tire dressing to keep them black. No dressing results in brown tires, for some reason.
