Hi guys. Over the years, I reckon I've changed my fmx tranny pan gasket about 10 times.

It's partly my fault because I can go for weeks without driving the stang.

I've tried mainly the cork gaskets which come with the filter.

This last attempt, I made sure the pan lip was nice and straight and just used the red hitemp rtv stuff with no gasket.

It was good for about 3-4 weeks and I thought I finally beat the sucker, then it started dripping again.

I noticed that it's coming out of one tiny spot. I'm wondering whether it's because I might have missed that spot or maybe the whole thing would leak like a siv eventually. Has anyone got an old family secret recipe that doesn't involve killing small children or animals which which can stop the leaks once and for all.

My last measure, out of sheer desperation is to drill some fairly solid metal bars and put them in the pan track and tighten the bolts even harder with the red rtv.

I know you can't get an allow pan for an fmx, I've been looking for 10 years.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Ya i havent seen any aftermarket pans for the FMX. You may want to try to find a good used pan and try it. I never use any kind of sealant on my tranny pans. If any squishes into the trans it could gum up the valve body pretty quick. I always had my best luck with a good rubber gasket with NO kind of sealer or adhesive. Make sure the holes in the pan are not dimpled in. Tap the holes nice and flat with a hammer and dolly. Install gasket dry and do not over tighten. I think thats where most of the tranny pans leaks come from, is overtightening the pan bolts. I torque mine to factory specs, then run it and let it get up to temp them recheck the torque. Usually works for me. Good luck .

 
Does it always leak from the same spot? If so could be a flaw/porosity in the case.

Otherwise, make sure the pan mating surface is straight, use a good gasket and torque to specs. Because the low torque spec does not place much load on the bolt threads I also use blue thread locker.

 
urg i must of resealed my C6 about 20 times, different gaskets and RV.. it still weep leaks and drips from time to time.

It got better after i dumped a bottle of transmission stop leak treatment into it.

People say not to use that garbage, but you know what it stopped a lake from forming under my car and once a year i get a dime size drop and the trans doesn't seem to care.

I had leaks from everywhere, the shift linkage, the dip stick, the pan, the front the rear yoke i have a picture of the car sitting in my garage over the winter and in the spring i had at least 4 quarts of trans fluid under it. i replaced the orings and seals at least 3 times and nothing worked, entire bottle of lucas stop leak and bang it keeps 99% of the fluid in the trans now.

 
I've read so many conflicting stories about rtv as a replacement for cork gaskets, now I'm totally confused.

I think I'll try for plan B and plan C.

Does anyone have a link for me where I can buy a really good gasket for my fmx.

Next option is to use some sort of additive!

Are there any additives which you guys have used with success with sealing these trannies? What brand?

Plan D is to put a c6 in, at lease I can get an allow pan!

 
I've had my trans pan off my FMX three times this summer. I've used cork and rubber. The final solution that has worked is NO gasket. All I used was a nice bead of The Right Stuff which is made by Permatex. Cleaned everything really good and put the bead on the pan and went around the bolt holes to "encase" them. I've had really good luck with this stuff.

If you go this route just be sure to add some extra sealant to the two holes in the trans housing where the pan mates first or you'll leak at those two spots. Normally the gasket would go over top of them. Once you have the pan off you'll see. They are in line with the bolt holes. There is one on the pass side and one on either drivers side or rear. Once it's together and set it's just a pain to pull the pan again. But hopefully you won't need to do that! Now if I could only get the kick down to stop leaking!

I've had good luck with napa rubber/composite gaskets. Install dry, brake clean the pan and trans case. I know there's probably not a napa in OZ, but you should be able to find an equivalent.
