Except, putting a filter before the pump on a mechanical pump system can cause cavitation.

Thanks guys. I will be pulling it soon. Driving season is just about done here, by end of October. Cant believe there's rust or dirt in the tank....freaking thing isn't very old!! I figured the plastic sock broke down and collapsed on itself. Either way I will find out soon enough. Didn't have any issues with it till just a couple weeks ago.
