Anyone have thoughts on using 24 yr old primer? Can looks brand new. It is 3M uro primer (now Axalta).  I bought it to use on this car all that time ago. It seems a huge waste of money but if it is crap then nfw do I want to use it.

I say no way! If it was for lawn furniture or my old tractor....maybe. But when you are going to spend thousands of dollars on paint, why not spend $150 on a gallon of good primer.

I have some of the base left over from 2003 and it seems fine, but I'd never use it for anything other than a touchup on a chip.

24 year old Primer? NFW on the exterior, maybe for interior after doing rust repairs and such. Last thing you need is the primer to fail six months after the car is painted...

FWIW, if you plan on having someone paint the car, you need to clarify what system they use, what products they want you to use and how much body work they are willing to accept as good enough for them to put their reputation on. Some painters won't even touch a car they haven't done from bare metal, as all it takes is some bad work by the owner resulting in a paint failure, and then it's all the painter's fault.

In other words, be cheap somewhere else.

I figured that would be the response. I already have new primer that I bought 2 weeks ago. The really old stuff is close to $350/gal for just the primer. I just found the old stuff in a box....who doesn't have a mystery box or 20 in their house? Thx for the response.
