Hey Guys,

Not an expert on heads but I found something when I took off the intake manifold off. The area where I think the valve guide may sit is partially broken. It appears it may have been done when the engine was rebuilt in 95. I bought the car 2 yrs ago and am just getting to the engine. I think it's ok but I want to hear what you guys have to say. The car's been running fine since 95 so it doesn't appear to be affecting anything. If it happened after the rebuild there would be sign of damage in this valve area or you would think there would be some debris. It's completely clean and no damage.

It looks like the guide boss was broken when the guides were replaced (someone got a little heavy handed). It looks ugly but, should not cause a problem if there are no more pieces waiting to fall off. If you are taking the engine apart I would check all of the guide bosses for cracks and guides for proper installation/alignment. Chuck

Thanks Chuck,

That's what I thought a heavy hand. All the others look fine. I need some reinforcement before I move on. I didn't know what that was called. Guide bosses. Thanks for the info
