Hello everyone, I’m having a hell of a time trying to change out my valve stem seals while the motor is in the car. I tried using the old hammer type tool, not much luck. I bought a screw down spring tool, but it isn’t long enough. Can someone recommend a decent inexpensive o tool that can be used while the engine is in the car. I have a 1971 351 Cleveland M code. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I have the OTC 4573, slow and steady and Summit 906784.
Please note that the summit 906784 is for 7/16'' studs and it could be used for pedestal mount if you had a 5/16'' to 7/16'' conversion stud such as crane cams sells or have someone with a lathe spin you up a stud.
The summit tool is much faster but the OTC will work
Ford did have one back in the day that had a screw in T handle thing and simple lever that worked well, but you will not find one.

Thank you bud. I had popped 1 off and couldn’t get it back together. I had to rig up something to push it down so I could install the retaining clips that hold it in place. Took me hours. I will look into each of those and see what will work best for me. I appreciate your help.
 
I have used the aforementioned OTC 4573. I modified it by welding a 1/2 hex nut on the top so I could us a ratchet. As said, it is slow but does the trick. If you are doing all 16 the Summit will be a faster option.

These Cal-Van #579 compressors are fast and inexpensive (under $20 on eBay). Work great on hydraulic springs. Not suitable for heavy dual springs.
