Very little heat/ac flow, think I need to rebuild or replace heater box

Replaced blower motor (bad bearing) very little air flow. Thinking stuck door or motor, have shop rebuild or just replace? Suggested parts list? Saw Mr. Mustang repopulate heater box for two hundred and change on eBay, seems cheaper than having shop troubleshoot and rebuild at hourly rate, any thoughts, suggestions (or does anyone have a known good pen heater/ac box they would sell inexpensively?

What else should I order before starting job (want to try and get car back in a day or two rather than weeks waiting for parts I should have ordered.

How was the flow with the previous motor? Did you have to move the old squirrel cage to the new motor? If airflow was better with the original setup, I would start with the new motor. It may be rotating in a direction opposite to the original motor.

I would start with this illustration and track air flow from source to outlets. Maybe it’s choked at the source or a door is stuck closed? You can remove the wire actuators and manually move the doors to diagnose the problem. Let us know what you find. Steve

Did you get the 4 Seasons motor from Rock Auto? I bought that one and think I got a motor for a heater only. Mine does not have the blower speed of the original motor. I may have a new bearing put in my original and just put that one back in.

A poor chassis ground can cause the blower motor to not work effectively. Make sure you have a good ground before you spend a bunch of hard-earned dollars.

Yes!! I’ve been jumping up and down over this for some time. The repro motors no matter where you bought them are heater motors for cars with no A/C. They have reverse polarity so the red wire has to be attached to ground and the black to the fan resistor. It will push air but not nearly enough. The proper A/C motors have not been reproduced so if you have your old motor, lube the bearings and reinstall. Return the new motor.

I pulled my entire system apart to clean it all. Found a mouses nest inside the box packed up beside the A/C. I used some calcium cleaner for radiators on the outside of each exchanger and they look new on the outside. I will still needs to flush the inside before I assemble the heater core lines. I found a lot of surface rust on the vent rods and soaked them all in rust repair, they look new and won’t be sticky anymore when moving. The rubber seals were also pinched and needed to be cleaned between the heater box and the ventilation system as well as the heater box and the inlet from the front window. Nothing too technical, just the time to get it right. You will have to remove a couple dash pieces but you can watch tutorials on YouTube.

I tried to get my original blower motor rebuilt today. The motor runs perfectly, the only issue is the bearing/bushing at the shaft end of the motor being broken, allowing the shaft to vibrate. The Auto electrical shop said the motor was pot together in a way that it cannot be taken apart (well it can be taken apart, it wont reseal on putting it back together). Does anyone know a shop that has sucessfully rebuilt these? If so where and how much.
