My first muscle car was a HG GTS 350. I got it at 17. I already owned another HG GTS with a little stroker sbc that I got at 16 but it was a 6cyl when i got it. I had these monaros for a very long time. Had a xd 351 4 sp, several valiants as daily drivers but none that I would call muscle cars. Bikes where my deal rode everyday regardless of weather. Got my Mach 1 end of last year at age 40. Dad had a XA GT RPO 83 wish I could get hold of that but it is in the bottom of a river just out of Cairns.

I just love reading the stories about still owning the first car.

I used to think about building my Torana into a muscle car, even after my brother killed it, but it went to the scrap man.

How much work do you guys do to modernising the Mach1's?

Is anyone fitting EFI, upgraded suspension, etc?

My first car, while not a muscle car, was quite a street runner. It was a big 1964 Pontiac Bonneville, 389 CI, 4 bbl carb, and a unique 4 speed auto transmission. I believed GM called it a Duel Coupling HydroMatic or Super Hydromatic. Anyone remember the gear selections being P N D S L R, instead of the current P R N D 2 1. In the early 70's I use to stupidly do a lot of street racing taking off from the stop lights. The Bonneville was crazy fast off the line with the 4 spd auto and I recall many amazed looks from the muscle car drivers as I beat them off the line. I was racing a Road Runner once and was ahead until we hit about 70 and he caught up.

HOLY COW!!! 64 'Ville with 389 and 4 spd.... now that was a HOSS

Here's a great story about my first car.......

that PIECE OF CRAP was easily in worse shape than the one depicted in its honor here within. Only difference was it's bumpers still barely hung on and it ran. BARELY!!! It ran so bad it used a quart of oil for every tank of gas... no muffler, and it smoked so bad you had to ride with the windows down sh*t you not. In the winter it had no heater and who ever was shot gun had to help keep the windshield cleaned off so we could see. The three on the tree hung up so we literly shifted gears through one of the many holes in the floorboard

...... ....NO not with a SHIFTER... the dadgum linkage rods. I would not even park it at school ... I was so ashamed of it, I parked down the road and walked the rest of the way. I didnt date because what chikieee would date a guy driving that POS!!!!!

So I love to hear the sad stories of the hard lives of those who had gto's, mustangs, cutlass and the many cool cars they had to sell to go to college. Angry..... nahhhhhhh :D

OHHH there is an upside to the story.... the HOT little FOX (that's what we called very pretty girls or at least Willing ones) back then apparently did some research after I posted on my high school thingy.... seems my classic cars, 2 houses and lets' say cool enough job.... all of a SUDDEN 8 years ago she's STILL IN LOVE WITH ME!!!! too bad my wife frowns on that.:whistling:

Reminds me of the 66 Mustang, 289 with Pony Interior that I sold around 1975 for $600. It looked and ran great, but that's what they were going for. I already had my 73 Convert and bought the 66 on a whim. I actually made money on it, I think I paid $450 for it.

600??? good lord.... I was making 1.63 or 1.70 an hour back then....hmmm no wonder I couldnt buy one!! But being an aggressive committed little devil, I managed to drive that ole Chevy II for 2 years, worked two jobs at 16 and "saved up"

bought something like this.... for 150.00 it was a Granny Car...white blue interior with a 6 cylinder. It was very nice looking just not cool. It was DEPENDABLE! I could make it to work and school without pushing it anywhere. HA!! Friend of my brother had a pretty Maverick Grabber GT with a 302 and 4 speed.... he gets drunk and wrecks it. He sold me the totaled Maverick, we took the drive train, wheels and converted my little Granny Car to one of the FASTEST cars in school ....all on a trailer park kids budget.

My first muscle car was a 1967 Shelby GT500 lime green black interior 4speed 4:11 Posi car. Yes it was all there dual quads and all. I didnt know what I had at the time, but drove it like it was suppose to be driven. NOT a day goes by that I dont think of that car.:s:s I can still remember the sound of that engine. One fall day in the park with leaves all over the ground, I pulled in to talk to some friends and they all started pointing at the rear of my car, unbeknown to me at the time the exhaust was leaf blowing two bare "stripes" into the grass. It looked like a burnout!! Good Times Good Times. I still have my first vehicle do you consider this "muscle"?

Ummm - I do! ::thumb::

The AMC 360/TC727 swap into my '80 CJ-7 was put on the back burner when I discovered my Mach 1. Once it's done, I'll get back to that. I found a '77 Wagoneer with the engine, TH-400 & Quadratrac T-case. I sold the TH-400 and Q T-case to someone whose '78 Wagoneer's TH-400 crapped out on them, and found an '82 Wagoneer with a TC727 (that will bolt right up to the Dana 300 in my Jeep). Should be a simple drop-in with some drive shaft work. But - that'll hafta wait just a bit longer.

Nice Jeep, man!!

There are some very stock cars and some highly modified ones on the site. I love modified cars but my Mach only has 18000 mile on it so I personally find it hard to start modifying such a sweet stocky. If you want EFI do it if you want good brakes suspension etc do it. Do what thou whilst shall be the whole of the law ;)

How much did you sell it for?...:p

My true first muscle car was a 78 Trans Am i bought when i was 19.

First car.jpg

My first car when I was 16 was a 74 Mercury Cougar with a 351 Cleveland it was more of cross muscle/comfort. Then at 18 i bought a 76 Mustang 2 fastback and swapped out the v6 for a 66 289 w/c4.

I got a smokin' deal on a used, solid axle race car. Won a few races as well. Only pic I have of it, which was quite some time ago when I was much much younger...

Had to buy my own too didnt come from a home with disposable income, good family just not a lot of bread. Same deal as you 2 jobs a paper route all with the intent of buying a Monaro no compromise, started saving in year 9 at high school. Being an aggressive committed little **** I also ran the high school black market ****o mag business to add to the legit savings, used to collect the mags from a dumpster at the back of a news agent and sell em for a buck a piece averaged about 150-200 bucks a month. One of the older kids the principles son tried to stand over me for a cut. Now I never won a fair fight in my life so I fought dirty. Later in the headmasters office I tried to convince him his sons chipped teeth and bruised kidney where just the buy in price. Had to shut up shop, you win some and you lose some. On a plus people did learn not to mess with that quite kid with a cheeky smile and quick hands:)
